Announcements and Reminders

CAMPUS Hours (as of August 22, 2022)

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the campus hours had been set in 2016. During COVID, beginning March 2020, we provided limited access to campus. Access was given to UH employees, students, vendors, services, and invited guests. As we reopened, which began in the Spring of 2022, and slowly returned to in-person meetings and classes our hours shifted to accommodate this change. As of August 22, 2022, our campus hours, for the Fall 2022 semester is as follows:

Monday – Friday, 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday: Campus is accessible for students & faculty/staff as well as special functions
Saturday time: To be determined (see below)
Campus is closed on Sundays and State Holidays.
Please know that Campus Hours and building/parking lot access times may be adjusted without notice.

Regarding Saturday campus hours: Students are welcome on campus, on Saturdays, if they need a space/table with WiFi access. Areas include the Naʻulu Outdoor Learning Center and the lanai areas of the Health Science Wing. A UH ID is not required, however, we strongly suggest that you carry your ID with you.

This is currently posted on our Auxiliary Services website.

Invitations to EverFi sex discrimination, gender-based violence prevention training

Aloha UH faculty and staff,

As we return to in-person classes and activities on campus, please remember that your safety and well-being are critical to us. The University of Hawai‘i (UH) is committed to ensuring that all members of our community work and study in a UH environment that is respectful and inclusive and where sexual misconduct of any form is not tolerated.

On Wednesday, September 7, you received email invitations from automated-message@everfi.net (“EverFi”) regarding the following online trainings:

  • Code of Conduct: Workplace Conduct (Workplace Non-Violence)
  • Preventing Harassment and Discrimination (Title IX, Sexual Harassment, VAWA)

This email invitation is part of the UH’s systemwide approach to educate employees about their rights, responsibilities, and available resources. Issues of workplace conduct, sex discrimination, and other forms of harassment and violence are prevalent on college campuses nationwide. While “from” everfi.net, these email invitations will be sent on behalf of the UH System Office of Institutional Equity and the UH System Office of Human Resources. This is not a phishing email. All employees are encouraged to participate. If you did not receive an email from EverFi in your inbox, please check your spam folder.

More information on the online trainings are available:

The University of Hawai‘i remains committed to maintaining communities and campus environments free from violence and discrimination and that resources are available.
Information on community and campus resources, Title IX Coordinator contact information, UH non-discrimination policies and guidance, and online Title IX training can be found at: www.hawaii.edu/titleix.

General Education Revisions

After carefully considering and discussing all of the feedback and recommendations submitted last academic year, the General Education Revisions Team has produced a revised curricular proposal. The document also includes a summary of the feedback and recommendations, including links to all of the raw data, discussions of implementation considerations, and a recommended timeline for implementation.

Download the proposal from this page. A short video that summarizes some of the main takeaways will be posted to the page soon.

We would also like to announce four open Town Halls for the UH community to come discuss the proposal and next steps on:

  • Friday, Sept. 23, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Oct. 3, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11, Noon – 1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 13, 1:30 – p.m.

You can register using your hawaii.edu email address for any or all of these town halls. The zoom link will be emailed to all registrants.
The next steps will be clearer once you have reviewed the proposal. However, with the submission of the proposal, we are asking each campus’ Faculty Senate to do one of the following:

  • Approve the baseline general education curricular proposal as revised based upon the feedback from last year’s consultation; or
  • Approve the baseline general education curricular proposal and develop any additional institutional values and/or high-impact educational practices on top of the proposed baseline curriculum that their campus’ Gen Ed Committee or Boards recommend.

The proposal includes four examples of how a campus might tailor the baseline curriculum to their unique situation, but there are other approaches to creating a signature Gen Ed program on a campus using the baseline requirements that are possible.
We ask that each faculty senate or congress aim to approve the baseline curriculum by the end of the semester or by the end of the academic year if voting on the baseline plus a signature high impact practice.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email them to gedesign@hawaii.edu. We look forward to supporting the faculty across the UH System as they continue this important work.
