Pre-Nursing Pathway Program
Pathway to Success
The University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu Bachelor of Applied Science, Health Professions, General Health Science (BAS-HP, GHS) concentration with a Pre-Nursing Pathway was designed to address the nursing shortage in the state of Hawaiʻi, specifically the westside of Oʻahu, and aims to develop and prepare scholarly leaders from west Oʻahu who are interested in improving the health and wellness of their community through a career in nursing. The Pre-Nursing Pathway program accepts students for enrollment in the Fall semester only.
Supporting you along the way
Through a unique collaboration between UH West Oʻahu and the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing at UH Mānoa, Pre-Nursing Pathway students will enroll in rigorous science courses and engage in hands-on clinical training opportunities in a variety of settings led by highly skilled professionals. This dynamic academic experience will be supplemented with state-of-the-art simulation equipment that provides extended learning options. The program fosters a holistic approach through incorporating Native Hawaiian values and principles, as well as place-based and aina-based learning.
The Pre-Nursing Pathway features courses that educate students on clinical healthcare, factors related to human health and disease, the human body, and cultural knowledge. In class, students will take part in hypothesis driven lab experiments to better understand how to apply foundational health science knowledge to clinical situations. Outside of class, students have the opportunity to gain first hand experience in research occurring on campus or with our partner organizations.
UH West O‘ahu offers a variety of opportunities to help fund your education. Most scholarships and grants require submitting a FAFSA. We encourage all students to submit their FAFSA regardless of financial circumstances. Grants and scholarships are a form of financial aid that do not have to be repaid, however, both have specific requirements. Some scholarships may be awarded based on merit. This means that students may need a minimum GPA to qualify for a scholarship, whereas grants are need-based and are awarded based on your financial situation. Both grants and scholarships may also have enrollment criteria
