Overview
This program prepares students for roles as data analysts who help businesses use data to make better decisions. Data analysts play key roles in businesses as they use analytical platforms and apply multidisciplinary skills to provide timely insight into broad business objectives. Business data analysts contribute to constructing data sets and use them to find meaningful patterns and visualizations to help organizations make data-driven decisions.
This concentration provides students with a thorough understanding of the discipline from building an understanding of data governance and the ethical use of data, through understanding the data analytics workflow: beginning with identifying valid sources of data, the process of extract, transform, load (ETL), performing basic techniques in data analytics using common methodologies and finally reporting including providing hands-on experience creating visualizations and communicating results for decision-making. Students completing this concentration will be prepared to enter the workforce as business analysts and in other related professional positions.
