Preparing for Registration
Prior to registration, follow the steps below.
1. Registration Date
Students are assigned a registration date based on credits earned at their home institution. This total includes credits officially transferred in from outside institutions, but excludes courses that are currently in progress.
To view your registration date:
- Log into STAR GPS
- Your registration start date will be located above the Register – Add/Drop Classes button for the term in which you are eligible to register in.
You may also view the Registration Timetable.
2. Health Clearances
State of Hawaiʻi law mandates that certain health requirements be cleared before students can enter into postsecondary institutions. The following information is provided to assist students with fulfilling these requirements prior to beginning classes at UH. Students who have not cleared their immunization requirements will not be able to register for in-person or hybrid classes.
Visit our Health Clearance Requirements page for details.
3. Holds
Ensure there are no holds that will prevent your eligibility to register.
To view holds:
- Log in to STAR GPS
- Click on View Holds on the Academic Essentials page
Visit Information on Holds for further details.
View the Pre-Registration Checklist.
4. Meet with a College Success Advisor
College Success Advisors help with academic planning, course selection, and approvals for registration (e.g., credit overload, repeat count, registration changes). Locate your College Success Advisor by visiting Advising.

6. Submit Payment
Mark the payment deadline on your calendar! The balance due for tuition and fees will be displayed at the top of your registration page after you have officially registered for classes.
The University offers the option to pay your bill in one payment or through installments using a payment plan (available for fall and spring terms only). Visit MyUH Services Payment Information and Options on payment options, setting up authorized users, paying by Third Party, and more.
Other Helpful Information
Non-Degree and Auditor Registration
Non-degree students and auditors register on a space available basis one week before the semester begins. Audit classes are entered on the student’s transcript with a grade of “L” and are subject to regular tuition and fee charges. Audit classes are not counted in determining a student’s enrollment status. Students and instructors may not amend the audit grade mode to receive credit for a class once the audit grade mode is designated.
Late Registration
Students may register up to and including the last day designated on the University calendar for late registration. All first-time registration that occurs during this period is subject to a non-refundable late registration fee. See the Academic Calendar for specific deadline dates.
Maximum Credit Load
UH West O‘ahu students may take up to 19 credits in the fall and spring semesters and up to 12 credits in the summer term. Those who request a credit limit increase for any term must obtain approval from their College Success Advisor in Student Affairs. If approved, the additional credits may be registered for, no earlier than one week before the first day of instruction for the term.
