Campus Security
The University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu Campus Security Department is firmly committed to ensuring a safe and secure campus environment for people and their property at the UH West O’ahu campus within the constraints of federal, state, local laws, and university policies. The members of the Campus Security Department are committed to providing high-quality public safety services with a strong emphasis on customer service.
UH West Oʻahu Campus Security officers do not have police powers or arrest authority and are not authorized to carry firearms. Campus Security officers may detain person(s) involved in the violation of laws and those involved in criminal acts they personally view, or those positively identified as having committed such an act by victims or witnesses.
Report a Crime
Contact UH West Oʻahu Campus Security if you would like to report criminal activity occurring on campus, have observed suspicious activity, or believe there is suspicious activity taking place on campus. When you call with a tip or information, you have the option of remaining anonymous.
Annual Security Report
The UH West Oʻahu Annual Security Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus, property owned or controlled by the UH West O‘ahu, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters. You may obtain a copy of this report by contacting Campus Security at (808) 689-2911 or by visiting the Campus Security office located in room F-202 of the Maintenance and Mechanical building.
Programs and Services
Patrol
Campus Security Department Officers patrol the UH West O‘ahu campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Officers conduct patrols regularly to deter potential crime, maintain situational awareness of day to day operations of the campus, and provide a visible security presence on campus.
Along with routine patrol duties and traffic control, officers respond to a variety of calls for service to include alarms, medical emergencies, suspicious activity, conducting investigations, making emergency notifications, and securing rooms and buildings.
Officers are trained in emergency First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). AED locations can be found on the campus map.
Safety Escort
A safety escort service is provided from dusk til dawn for anyone on campus traveling to any University parking lot or facility. Dial x2911 from any campus phone or (808) 689-2911 from a mobile phone to request a safety escort.
Event Security Request
Many campus departments hold special events on campus property throughout the year. Depending on the size of your event or your desire to have added security measures in place, you may request that UH West Oʻahu Campus Security Department officers to work special duty for your event.
UH West Oʻahu Campus Security Department reserves the right to use its discretion and require campus departments to have officers working special duty depending on the type of event and circumstances (i.e. concerts).
All special duty requests will be paid for by the requesting department. Requests will be filled as our department staffing allows. If we are unable to meet your request, we will notify you and recommend other options.
