In-Person Instruction Temporarily Moving Online for the First Two Weeks

Date/Time sent: 12/30/2021 8:00 am

Dear Instructional Faculty and Academic Affairs Staff:

I’m writing to follow up on President Lassner and Chancellor Benham’s recent announcements about temporarily moving in-person instruction online for the first two weeks of the Spring 2022 Semester. This message aims to provide additional details concerning academic affairs on our campus.

Instructors of In-Person and/or Hybrid Classes

In-person or hybrid classes with in-person meetings in the first two weeks are directly affected by the recent announcement by President Lassner that in-person classes will be temporarily shifted to electronic delivery for the first two weeks of the semester. As Chancellor Benham mentioned in her campus message sent yesterday, December 29, we recognize that there are courses that require in-person attendance. The Office of the VCAA will be providing a request form to affected instructors interested in conducting in-person class sessions during the first two weeks. Requests to conduct in-person instruction in the first two weeks will be due by 8am on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in order to provide ample time, before the first day of instruction on January 10, to communicate any changes to our students.

Library Hours

The James & Abigail Campbell Library will observe following hours for the first two weeks of the Spring semester. The building will be open during these times from January 10 – 21:

  • Monday – Thursday, 9am – 3pm
  • Friday, 9:30am – 1:30pm

All visitors to the library will need to be cleared in Lumisight to access services in person. Please see the library’s COVID-19 page for more information.

Librarians will be available online via chat, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. To reach a librarian, click on the red “Chat with a Librarian” tab on the right side of the library home page or call 808-689-2700. Librarians can also be reached via text at 808-518-6910.

Happy New Year

Finally, on behalf of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, I’m wishing you wellness and happiness. We are grateful to you for successfully providing valuable learning opportunities for our students this past year. We wish you and yours a Happy New Year for 2022!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A.S. Moniz, PhD
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

P.S. Instructors with in-person classes scheduled to meet during the first two weeks, please be on the lookout for a separate email from me, shortly. The separate email will provide the form for requests to conduct in-person classes sessions in the first two weeks.
