General Spaces

Information Commons

Our Information Commons (IC) is the large open space on both of our floors. The IC boasts desktop computers, printers, scanners, outlets and ample desk space for those using their own devices. We encourage all users to be considerate of others by keeping their voices down and taking phone calls outside.

Computer Lab

As long as there are no scheduled classes in the room, students are welcome to use the computer lab (B-233), which offers you a quiet space to study.

Quiet Zone

Because of the Library’s design, noise tends to carry throughout the building. For users who prefer a quieter study zone, we have designated the upstairs corner, behind the Computer Lab, as the Library’s Quiet Zone. Please refrain from talking, making noise, or talking on your cell phone while in this area.

Spaces You Can Reserve

Study Rooms

The Library has 3 group study rooms, all of which come equipped with a large screen tv, a large table, and six chairs. All of these rooms are located on the Library’s second floor. Study rooms can be used by groups of 2-6 current UHWO students.

To reserve a study room ahead of time, you can do so via this link, call us at (808)689-2700, make a reservation in-person at the Circulation Desk, or  “chat” us. We’ll need to know your name, student ID number, the number in your party, and what day/time you’d like to reserve the room.

Lactation Room

The Library’s Lactation Room is located between the Women’s and Men’s restrooms in the first-floor lobby area. The room contains a comfortable chair, a low table, a sink with hand-washing supplies, paper towels, and a waste bin. The space can be booked using this calendar or by stopping at the Library’s Circulation Desk.

Food Zones

Our food and drink policy can be viewed in its entirety here: Food and Drink Policy. Please be mindful of food restrictions when choosing a study space. There are signs in each area to indicate what zone you’re in.

Red
Food and drink are not permitted in red zones. Red zones are the areas near our computer equipment.

Yellow
Dry snacks and covered drinks can be consumed in these areas. Dry snacks are defined as snack bars, nuts, chips, etc.

Green
Food and covered drinks can be consumed in this area. The Library’s Lobby is the only green zone in the building.
