This week (October 21-27) is International Open Access Week. Go to www.openaccessweek.org to learn about this global event that has been celebrated for a decade.

Also, find open access materials by exploring the following resources:

  • DOAJ: the Directory of Open Access Journals provides access to quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. 
  • DOAB: the Directory of Open Access Books provides access to more than 20,000 of academic peer-reviewed books and chapters.
  • DPLA : the Digital Public Library of America offers open access to materials from libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural institutions. Materials include: books, maps, photographs, artwork, oral histories, government documents and more.
  • EOL: the Encyclopedia of Life provides open access knowledge about life on Earth. EOL content results from coordinated efforts of museums, libraries, universities, research centers, science communities, individual scientists and data hubs. 
  • HathiTrust: a digital library repository that provides access to millions of digitized materials from world academic and research institutions.
  • LibriVox: free access to public domain audiobooks read by volunteers from all over the world. It currently has more than 13,000 works in 39 languages.
  • Open Book Publishers: UK independent publisher for open access books in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Currently provides open access to 150+ published titles.
  • Project Gutenberg: an online library of over 60,000 free e-books. Download them in ePub and Kindle formats or read them online. Find some of the most remarkable world literature, including older works for which U.S. copyright has expired.
