FAQs

Staff

Our Campus Recreation Coordinator is Ryan Perreira. If you have any questions, you can email him at imwest@hawaii.edu or call (808) 689 – 2688.

Other than Ryan Perreira, the staff is completely student-led. You can find information about our current staff members under “About Us.” Our program also has many volunteers who help make Intramural Sports possible.

If a position is open, you can apply on SECE, the campus student employment portal. All requirements for the position will be available on the job description.

Nāulu Fitness Center

UH West Oʻahu students, staff, and faculty are all welcome to use the fitness center. All participants must be dressed in appropriate attire and in good health.

You must fill out a liability waiver. This will be provided by the Campus Recreation staff or you could find it on the Nāulu Fitness Center page. It must be filled out each semester.

Yes, you need a validated UH West Oʻahu ID to use the Nāulu Fitness Center. You can receive an ID from the Student Services office, located downstairs in the C-Building.

Nāulu Fitness Center participants currently do not need to pay to use the facility.

While we prefer you schedule an appointment, it is not required. We welcome walk-ins, but please be aware that you are not guaranteed a spot in the fitness center. According to safety procedures, no more than 4 people are allowed in the gym at once, so those who reserve their spot in the gym ahead of time will have priority. The staff has the right to turn down a walk-in.

You can find information on scheduling appointments at the Nāulu Fitness Center here.

An appointment runs for 60 minutes, but if the gym has open space, you may extend your workout.

Spring 2024 Hours of Operation: Monday and Wednesday – 8:00am – 3:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday – 8:30am – 3:30pm, and Fridays – 8:00am – 12:30pm.

Intramural Sports - IM West

You need to fill out a liability/photo release waiver. These will be provided by the Campus Recreation staff.

Yes, you need a validated UH West Oʻahu ID to participate in intramural sports. You can receive an ID from the Student Services office.

Only UH West Oʻahu students can participate in IM West intramural sports. You must be enrolled in at least 1 credit, have a GPA of at least 2.0, fill out the required paperwork, be in good health, and come appropriately dressed.

Sports availability varies and depends on the intramural sports league, but in the past, we have offered outdoor flag football, indoor volleyball, indoor basketball, outdoor soccer, outdoor softball, and indoor dodgeball.

Try-outs are not required! All eligible students are welcome to play. We have various teams so participants of all levels can play. When registering, please indicate what your skill level is, and you will be placed accordingly.

IM LeeSports of Leeward Community College schedules and officiates the intramural sports league.

We play against Leeward CC, Windward CC, Honolulu CC, Kapiʻolani CC, and our own UH West Oʻahu teams.

Campus Recreation staff recruit near the Nāulu Fitness Center, in the courtyard, and in the gym. You can sign up for the emailing list, where you’ll provide your email and indicate your sports interests. When we begin team registration for a sport, you will be sent a Google Form to sign-up with. You can also send an email or call us to let us know you are interested in playing intramural sports.

It is free to play intramural sports. However, if your team forfeits during a league game, a $15 fee will be divided amongst all players.

You do not need to sign up with a team, but if you do have one we welcome you to sign up together. Please indicate on the registration form that you are a team.

You are welcome to join anytime during the season, however, only players who participated in a previous game(s) in the season may play in playoffs. Please contact a Campus Recreation staff member so we can help you find a spot on a team.

You are welcome to participant in all sports leagues, but you may only play on one team per sport per season. Once you have actively played on a team, you cannot switch rosters. Teams are co-ed and have a maximum player amount, but we offer several teams so all eligible participants can play.

We provide jerseys for all sports. Please refer to the sports leagues rules (found on the individual sports categories) for other rules about appropriate attire.

It is not required for you to bring equipment, but if you would like to bring something such as a basketball, you are more than welcome to. You will be responsible for your own equipment.

Locations vary depending on the sport, but typically games are played near ʻAiea.

You can also find the dates, locations, and times on the individual sports categories of this website.

Please contact the staff either in-person, via email, or by phone.

If the team does not have at least minimum amount of players required for a game, the game will be forfeited and count as a loss. The team is charged a $15 fee, which will be divided amongst all players.

If a game is cancelled, the staff will notify participants as soon as possible.

Championship winners of a sports league may win prizes, such as t-shirts, provided by IM LeeSports.

Tournaments

We typically have 1-2 tournaments a semester, open to UHWO students, staff, and faculty. They are TBD each semester.

Campus Recreation staff will recruit participants via flyers, social media, word of mouth, etc. A registration link to a Google Form will be provided on all of these platforms.

It is preferred that you sign up with a team, but if you do not have one, we can place you into one.

Tournaments may cost a fee, depending on each event. In the past, we have hosted a bowling tournament where each individual donated $20 to the Hawaiʻi Foodbank in exchange for three hours of bowling and rental shoes.

Prizes vary, depending on event and availability.

Free Play

Free Play times are based on staff availability. We are currently not offering Free Play.

Free Play is located on the UH West Oʻahu Great Lawn unless indicated otherwise.

Sports availability varies by each Free Play day, but we may offer volleyball, basketball, flag football, pickleball, spikeball, sabaki ball, soccer, softball, and so on.

Photo Galleries

Currently you can only screenshot photos, but we are working to find a solution to make them downloadable!

IMWEST staff and volunteers provide photography and videography.

Photos may go to our website, in the fitness center slideshow, on social media, and into recruitment pamphlets. If you are uncomfortable with any photos or have any concerns, please contact the IMWEST staff.

We try to upload photos weekly, typically on Fridays.

We tend to post our videos on social media, but are working to offer videos on our website as well!

Miscellaneous

Feel free to swing by the Nāulu Fitness Center (C135) or at any of our events to meet our team! You can also email us at imwest@hawaii.edu.
