Growth Mindset to be explored during Fridayʻs Math + Science + X seminar

Dr. Helmut Kae, the 2014 recipient of the Regent’s Medal for Excellence in Teaching at Leeward Community College, will give a presentation titled “Growth Mindset: You are not as dumb as you think you are,” as part of the Math + Science + X seminar this Friday, Feb. 23, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in E133.

Kae, an assistant professor of biology in Leewardʻs Mathematics and Natural Sciences Division, holds a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of British Columbia. His talk will explore how the growth mindset can help students and lead them towards long-term success by instilling a positive mindset.

He will discuss how mindset can have a direct impact on how students face academic challenges. The talk will present what growth mindset is, how one can work to develop a growth mindset, and discuss the experience of learning.
