Reading and Talk Story Session: Bamboo Ridge Press, Nov. 17

Bamboo Ridge Press Reading and Talk Story

Bamboo Ridge Press Reading and Talk Story

The UHWO Library is hosting two new Bamboo Ridge Press authors, Donald Carreira Ching and Christy Passion, at a Reading and Talk Story Session on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 3:20 p.m. in the Second Floor Exhibition Space.

Set in contemporary Hawai’i, Between Sky and Sea: A Family’s Struggle, is an episodic novel by Ching that tells the story of three brothers struggling to negotiate their identities in the wake of cultural loss, drug addiction, and family tragedy.

Still Out of Place, poems by Passion, is a powerful collection that explores a life lived in Hawai‘i, rich with cultural heritage that few others have really captured. Tough and unflinching, compassionate and beautifully crafted, this is a sharp-eyed, singular portrait of island life. It’s working class. It resists nostalgia. It shows that there can be a beauty in the everyday pain that blue-collar people endure.

Dry Snacks will be provided and there will be prize drawings.

This event is a collaboration between Andy Godefroy, the UHWO Library, and Bamboo Ridge Press. Please contact Andy at if you have any questions.
