UH West Oʻahu Assistant Professor of Creative Media Wojciech Lorenc won the 2016 Laulima Innovation Award for his creative media course, Film Analysis and Storytelling. The award honors faculty members who demonstrate excellent use of technology in the online or hybrid classroom. In Film Analysis and Storytelling, Lorenc incorporates videos designed to simulate face-to-face interaction to build relationships with his students in an online setting. He also created more than 80 videos illustrating visual concepts that are ideally suited for an online course about film analysis and storytelling.

“I want students to feel that they are engaged in a constant dialogue with me,” said Lorenc. “I want them to feel that they know and have a real relationship with their instructor.”

Wojciech Lorenc created UH West Oʻahu’s film, TV and transmedia curriculum. His work focuses primarily on empowering storytellers, artists, and journalists, and teaching them how to use social media platforms to reach global audiences. In addition to screening his work in film festivals worldwide and winning awards internationally, Lorenc has reached over 35 million people online through various media projects.
