University of Iowa Associate Professor of Biostatistics and expert in data science, Gideon Zamba, will speak about the field of statistics during this interesting Math+Science+x Seminar sponsored by the UH West Oʻahu Math and Science department. Zamba will discuss the challenges that arise in analyzing data that allows for meaningful and informed decision making. He will provide examples of settings where statistical theory finds an application as well as situations where real world application generates a need for new statistical development. Zamba will also elaborate on biostatistics, and offer general advice about mathematical and computational skills needed for a successful graduate degree in biostatistics or statistics. Happening Friday, Jan. 29 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in E243. UH West Oʻahu students, faculty, staff and the community are encouraged to attend.
