UH West Oʻahu staff participated in fire safety training led by Fire Inspector Jeff Roache of the Honolulu Fire Department on August 12. Participants learned how to properly extinguish a cooking fire and how to dispense a fire extinguisher against a simulated flame. How do you use a fire extinguisher?

1) Pull out the pin

2) Aim the extinguisher hose at the base of the fire

3) Squeeze the handle

4) Sweep the hose from side to side

The fire safety training was offered by UH West Oʻahu’s Environmental, Health and Safety office in partnership with the Honolulu Fire Department.
