As part of the SD 101 Summer Bridge Program, students played traditional Hawaiian games and learned about teamwork and perseverance on August 5. Summer Bridge is a week-long course where incoming freshmen participating in the Onipaʻa program attend lectures and participate in interactive discussions and activities designed to prepare them for the coming academic year at UH West Oʻahu. UHWO Associate Professor of Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Studies Leilani Basham coordinated the day’s activities that included Haka Moa (chicken fight), Moa Paheʻe (dart slide), Kōnane (checkers), Hukihuki Hoʻokahi (individual tug-of war), and ʻUlu Maika (rolling stone disc).
