UH Regents award scholarships to two UH West Oʻahu students

Winners of Regents, Presidential Scholarships

Two incoming UH West Oʻahu Students, one a recent high school graduate and the other a transfer from UH Maui College, have been awarded scholarships by the UH Board of Regents for their record of outstanding academic achievement.

Amber N. O’Leary, a Leilehua High School graduate, was recently awarded the Regents Scholarship that provides a full tuition waiver for four years of undergraduate study.  The scholarships were awarded to 20 outstanding freshman who received an SAT total score of at least 1950 (old SAT)/1380 (new SAT) or ACT combined score of at least 29. They also must have a 3.5 GPA and a record of remarkable extracurricular achievements.

Jacqueline A. Kapu, a transfer from Maui College, received a Presidential Scholarship, which are awarded to 10 college juniors who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 for all college level work and a record of sustained progress in academic courses.  Additionally Presidential Scholarship candidates must show superior academic achievement or creative endeavor.

“We glory in your achievements today but we look forward even more to what you’ll be accomplishing in the years ahead,” said UH President David Lassner at a July 20 event honoring the scholarship winners.

The scholarships are administered by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UH Hilo, UH Mānoa and UH West O‘ahu in cooperation with the UH System Office of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
