“Hoʻoulumau – Indigenizing the University through Learning Communities,” March 2

UH West Oʻahu Learning Community students participated in a workshop at Hale Kuahuokalā.

Dr. Trina Nahm-Mijo of Hawaiʻi Community College will share highlights of her 30 years doing learning community work within Hawaiʻi Community College and the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo in “Hoʻoulumau – Indigenizing the University through Learning Communities,” on Thursday, March 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. in D104.

Dr. Nahm-Mijo will discuss her work with the Title III grant, Kulukulua, and the accompanying summary of their collective work: “Ho‘oulumau. Indigenizing Academia: Hawai‘i Community College Learning Community Development,” which details the development of two programs at Hawai‘i Community College: Ha‘akūmalae and Themed Learning Communities (TLC).

“This meeting is set up to bring more awareness of the success of Learning Communities so we here at UH West Oʻahu can continue to seek ways to develop and improve our collaborations and teaching effectiveness within our growing campus.” Dr. Manulani Aluli Meyer, UHWO Director of Indigenous Education, is hosting this event on Thursday.  Students, faculty, and staff are warmly invited to the presentation.
