National Coming Out Day, Oct. 11

National Coming Out Day, October 11.

National Coming Out Day, October 11.

Tuesday, October 11, is National Coming Out Day. UH West Oʻahu is honoring this day by hosting a “Safe Zone” tent in the Courtyard from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students, faculty, and staff will be promoting support of the LGBTQ+ community by offering rainbow-colored lei to those who stop by the tent.

The event will also promote a series of Safe Zone trainings in October and November. The Safe Zone Training Program raises awareness of LGBTQ+ issues on campus and sharpens skills of allies to help end harassment. Participants receive a poster to display to indicate that they are part of a professional network of student support, as well as a certificate of completion. Trainings are scheduled for:

Monday, October 17, 12-1pm (B217)
Friday, November 4, 1:30-3:00 pm (C225)
Wednesday, November, 16, 3:30-4:30pm (B217)
