Student Support Spotlight image

Welcome to a new E Kamakani Hou series that highlights the services the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu offers to help our students succeed. Student Support Spotlight will profile the wide-ranging services that are important for our students and campus. The series has so far featured profiles on AdvisingAdmissions, the Behavior Intervention Team, the Bookstore, and Campus Security.

Name of service: Career Services

Where we are: Campus Center, C-240

Who we are:

  • Loea Akiona, Career Services Coordinator

  • Lori Foo, Career Services Specialist

What services we provide: We provide career development through advising, assessments, career planning, job search strategies, workshops, presentations, and career and graduate school fairs. We want students to be career-ready and confident as they transition from UH West Oʻahu to the workforce. Career development is the same as most other things, the more you do it, the better you get at it. Don’t wait until you graduate to practice. Get involved early and often. Spend time working on your resume, practice answering interview questions, networking, communicating with employers — you will be better prepared when it counts.

What we’re excited about: We are excited about launching Handshake in the fall semester. Handshake is a platform that connects students and employers.

What’s special about us: Each semester we put on both the Career & Internship Fair and the Graduate & Professional School Fair. These are our flagship events that attract hundreds of students looking for internships, employment, or a graduate program that aligns with their educational and professional goals.

We also have a healthy professional closet, hundreds of gently used professional attire items available for free to UH West Oʻahu students.

What’s special about you: We constantly hear great things from our employer network about UH West Oʻahu students. Businesses and organizations consistently remark on the maturity and career-readiness that UH West Oʻahu interns show on the job. They are always eager to return and recruit UH West Oʻahu students.
