The UH West Oʻahu Alumni ‘Ohana will pick up the cost of Veteran Honor Cords for graduating veterans, military students and ROTC cadets as well as sponsor a pre-commencement ceremony photo session.
The red white and blue cords are available from the UH West Oʻahu Bookstore to students who have applied for graduation and are either a honorably discharged student veteran, currently serving military student (active duty, National Guard, member of reserve forces) or ROTC Cadets. The cords normally would be purchased for $13.
“We are proud to recognize our graduating Student Veterans with the Veteran Honor Cord,” said David Dinh, a UH West Oʻahu Business Administration instructor, veteran, and vice president of the UH West Oʻahu Alumni ‘Ohana.
“This cord represents our gratitude for your service to our country and (is given) in recognition of your achievements.”
To receive the cord students must present verification of their status by showing one of the following:
- Valid military ID Card. Expired/veteran ID cards cannot be used;
- DD 214 form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) or NGB Form 22 (Report of Separation and Record of Service);
- VA ID Card; or,
- Driver’s license showing Veteran status.
The UH West Oʻahu Alumni ‘Ohana is also coordinating a group photo of all graduating student veterans wearing their regalia and cords prior to commencement on May 4. The group is asked to gather during the Graduate Reception at Campus Center prior to the 8 a.m. photo.
