Welcome to a series that highlights the services the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu offers to help our students succeed. Student Support Spotlight will profile the wide-ranging services that are important for our students and campus. The series has so far featured profiles on Advising, Admissions, the Behavior Intervention Team, the Bookstore, Campus Security, and Career Services.

Name of service: Mental Health Services

Where we are: B-216 or online via Zoom

Who we are:

  • Steven R. Taketa, Clinical Psychologist

  • Analu Sing, Clinical Psychologist

What services we provide: Mental health assessment and treatment. We provide treatment for a range of psychological problems and conduct psychological assessments to inform a student’s care. Our goal is to collaborate with students to develop treatment goals and to reach their objectives. Students can expect to meet with a mental health provider within two weeks of their request, to establish a collaborative treatment plan, and to have any questions or concerns about mental health to be sufficiently and appropriately addressed.

What we’re excited about: We are excited about offering student-led support groups. In these groups, students have a chance to meet other students who are likely to share many similar challenges and successes.

What’s special about us: There is no cap on treatment and we are dedicated to meeting with students in a timely manner. It is our goal to make every student feel safe, accepted, and valued, regardless of their backgrounds, lifestyles, or choices.

Contact: Students can make appointments by calling 689-2661 or emailing uhwotalk@hawaii.edu. Our hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (last appointments are available at 3 p.m.) Monday through Thursday. Read up on Mental Health Moments provided by UH West Oʻahu Mental Health Services.
