The Honolulu Brass Quintet will return to the UH West Oʻahu campus for the first time since 2016 when they perform at 7 p.m.,  Tuesday, April 17 in the James & Abigail Campbell Library.

With free admission for students, the quintet will present “Brass, Bach and the Renaissance,” featuring works ranging from the 15th century Renaissance Madrigals to Johann Sebastian Bach’s iconic “The Art of the Fugue” to a contemporary work by Bruce Adolphe, “Triskelion.”

The group’s performance will mark the first time it has performed on the UH West Oʻahu campus since December 2016. The group is one of a number of ensembles that perform under the banner of Chamber Music Hawaiʻi, a non-profit organization that is the oldest presenter of local, professional chamber musicians in Hawaii. It was founded in 1982.

The Honolulu Brass Quintet is billed as the premiere brass quintet in the state and is made up of members who also are professional musicians with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra.  They are Ken Hafner (trumpet), Jo Ann Lamolino (trumpet), Rudi Hoehn (bass trombone), Julia Filson (horn), Jason Byerlotzer (trombone).

The performance will be held on the first floor of the library, which is said to have excellent acoustics. Students, whether they attend UH West Oʻahu or not, may attend for free with a current ID.  Adult tickets are $30 each and may be purchased by going to the Chamber Music Hawaiʻi site or by calling (808) 489-5038.
