Submit a T-shirt design for UH West Oʻahu’s “West is Best” competition – your chance to have your design printed on hundreds of T-shirts and sold at the UH West Oʻahu bookstore.

The fourth annual “West is Best” T-shirt design contest is one of the bookstore’s most popular contests, attracting up to 20 designs each year.  Individuals or teams of designers who are UHWO students are invited to compete for cash and a chance to have their artistry displayed on the front of red, white, and black T-shirts. The designer also will receive a $100 gift card good at the UH West Oʻahu Bookstore.

It’s simple: Students should design something that includes the phrase “West is Best” and “University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu” in a design that fits within a maximum space of 17 inches wide by 20 inches high.  The design should express what makes UH West Oʻahu the best.

Other entry and design guidelines are available at www.bookstore.Hawaiʻi.edu/WestOahu. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 1, 2017.

First-round judging by a panel of UH West Oʻahu student employees, administrative, faculty and staff members will be conducted Oct. 2 through 5, after which several of the top designs will be up for voting online between Oct. 9 and 21. Typically the three designs have attracted 1,000 to 5,000 votes, according to Kory Uramoto-Wong, UH West Oʻahu Bookstore manager.

Depending on the design, up to 200 T-shirts have been printed in an one-time screening.  The shirts are popular sellers at the store but some do get sold online to buyers on the Mainland, Uramoto-Wong said.

She noted the shirt’s limited availability and the fact that it is designed by a UHWO student adds to its appeal.

The winner will be announced the week of October 23.
