UH West Oʻahu Chancellor Maenette Benham receives Educator Award

University of Hawaiʻi-West Oʻahu Chancellor Maenette Benham received the Eunah Temple Holden Award from Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a honor society that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Dr. Benham received the award at the DKG’s Southwest Regional Conference held at the Sheraton Waikiki in early July. DKG has its headquarters in Austin, Texas and has a vision of leading women educators impacting education worldwide. It  draws on membership from the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Japan.  

The award is named after Eunah Temple Holden, a former president of DKG who is credited for leading several significant organizational endeavors.  Holden’s legacy also includes a bequest made with instructions that a committee be formed to help DKG leaders develop and refine leadership skills with the goal of improving the status of women and of education as a whole.

Benham also gave the conference’s keynote address, speaking on the importance of women educators and leaders connecting, communicating, and collaborating to make a real difference in the lives of their colleagues and students.  She also spoke of the impact of leadership in growing the ongoing legacy of female leaders.
