Math + Science + X Seminar: Reconstructing South Asian Fishing

UH West Oʻahu Assistant Professor of Archaeology, William Belcher, will present about reconstructing the economy of past peoples through fishing economy reconstruction during the Indus Valley Civilization during a Math+Science+x Seminar on Friday, March 10, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Reconstructing the economy of past peoples is a major archaeological task. This presentation focuses on the reconstruction of fishing economies during the Indus Valley Civilization, centered on northwestern India and Pakistan during the third millennium B.C., roughly from 3,300 to 1,700 B.C. This research focuses on the analysis of fish remains (bones and scales) done in tangent with an ethnoarchaeological study of riverine and marine fisherfolk and markets.
