Library Workshops for February 2017

Throughout February, the UH West Oʻahu Library is offering a wide variety of workshops designed to assist students with classroom assignments and research projects. All workshops take place on Wednesdays in the UHWO Library Computer Lab (second floor) at 2 p.m.

February 1: Choosing a Research Topic and database searching

Learn how to develop an idea for a research topic into a specific research question. We will discuss techniques for narrowing or broadening a topic, ways to develop keywords, and strategies for using those keywords to find relevant resources in UHWO Library Databases.

February 8: MLA 8th Edition

Need help incorporating sources into your academic research papers using the MLA style? Learn techniques on how to format your citations from print and electronic sources – paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting and listing reference sources.

February 15: Hawaiʻi/Pacific Research

Discover various resources for doing research on Hawaiian and Pacific topics. We will cover resources available in the UHWO Library collection, along with some available on the open web. We will also highlight the collections of ‘Ulu’ulu, Hawaiʻi’s official state archive for moving images.

February 22: Fake News vs. Real News

Can you tell the difference? Fake news affects the integrity of academic research papers. Learn how to develop analytical skills to decipher what’s fake and what’s real. Don’t get duped by the fake news trend!
