Research experiences for teachers with Dr. Richard Jones, Nov. 20

Dr. Richard Jones

UH West Oʻahu Associate Professor of Science Education Richard “Rick” Jones will discuss research experiences for teachers during his “Researching Experiences for Teachers or you did what during your vacation?” Math+Science+x seminar on Friday, Nov. 20 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in E243.

Dr. Jones will discuss how Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) comprise a variety of programs that provide PK-14 teachers the opportunity to partner with university research faculty and government researchers in an effort to bring cutting edge research experiences and new knowledge into the teaching realm. Participating teachers do this by creating classroom activities that build upon the teachers’ unique experiences during their RET, the application of pedagogical best practices, and a unique understanding of their students and the communities where these students live. Dr. Jones will share several of his experiences studying atmospheric chemistry and physics on board ship in the tropical pacific, and working at the South Pole.
