UH System President David Lassner hosts open forum at UH West Oʻahu

UH System President David Lasser open forumUniversity of Hawaiʻi System President David Lassner spoke during an open forum, and answered questions from students, faculty and staff at UH West Oʻahu on Sept. 29. He spent the day on campus meeting with the Associated Students of UH West Oʻahu, Nālimakui Council, UH West Oʻahu senior administration, faculty leadership and community representatives.

During the open forum, President Lassner spoke about the University of Hawaiʻi System’s four strategic directions:

  1. Hawaiʻi Graduation Initiative
  2. Hawaii Innovation Initiative
  3. 21st Century Facilities
  4. High Performance Mission-Driven System

He answered questions from UH West Oʻahu students, faculty and staff related to course access at other UH System campuses, the Honouliuli National Monument, graduate school plans for UH West Oʻahu, the Thirty Meter Telescope, classroom space availability, the UH System Title IV policy, and the options for STEM majors at the University. In response to a question related to UH West Oʻahu campus leadership, he announced that the University of Hawaiʻi System will begin a national search for the next UH West Oʻahu chancellor. An interim chancellor will be appointed following Chancellor Rockne Freitas’ retirement on Dec. 31.
