Holomua: GEAR UP on the Leeward Coast celebrates National GEAR UP Week

UH West Oʻahu’s Holomua: GEAR UP on the Leeward Coast hosted a Champions of Education reception on Sept. 21 in honor of National GEAR UP week. Eleventh graders from Nānākuli and Waiʻanae high schools shared inspiring testimonials on the impact of GEAR UP and Holomua.

The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) federal grant provides low-income, minority, and disadvantaged students with the support and resources they need to go to college despite the challenges they may face in their communities. Since 2011, Holomua: GEAR UP on the Leeward Coast has worked with over 600 students from Nānākuli High and Intermediate School, Waiʻanae Intermediate, and Waiʻanae High School.
