  3. West Oʻahu Policy & Procedures

    1. No Spray Zone
Spraying of herbicide shall not occur within FIFTY (50) feet of the garden perimeter, regardless of day, time or circumstance. Although this buffer is not required per the Directions for Use, UHWO Building and Grounds shall refrain from applying herbicide within this zone (50′ is approximately to the ditch) to safeguard the Garden and its immediate surroundings. As this will require the need for manual weed removal, the Garden staff’s assistance in the care and maintenance of this herbicide-free No Spray Zone is anticipated and appreciated.
    2. Conditional Spray Zone
Beyond the No Spray Zone (50-foot buffer), spraying of 2 landscape areas (Makai of Laboratory Building E and the Waianae-end of Classroom Building D) shall follow these procedures:

      1. Spraying to only occur at wind speeds at or below the product- recommended 10 MPH and when the wind direction favors on-target deposition. The Building Services and Grounds Manager to utilize available information from NOAA and/or campus weather station(s) to verify wind speed.
      2. Spraying may occur in the early morning hours with application completed well before 8:00 a.m.
      3. At any other time, a Building and Grounds supervisor shall check with the Garden’s on-site staff prior to mixing the herbicide to be used in the area. If acceptable to the on-site staff, proceed with work.
    3. Foot Traffic Restrictions
People and/or animals are not to enter the treated area until sprays have dried. Treated area is not intended for foot through traffic and are to be selectively spot-sprayed.
