Classification Status

Purpose
To provide uniform categories or designations when individuals are accepted for admissions to UH West Oʻahu to enroll in courses.

Definitions
- Degree status – whether an individual accepted for admissions seeks to attain a formal program of study leading to a degree or certificate or chooses to be a non-degree / non-certificate seeking individual.
- Attendance status – refers to the number of semester credit hours a student registers for during the regular terms (fall and spring) and summer term.
- Educational Level – more commonly referred to as class standing and indicates the number of semester credit hours a student has earned.

West Oʻahu Policy & Procedures
- Degree Status
- Classified Student – A student who is admitted to a formal program of study leading to a degree or certificate.
- Unclassified Student – A student who enrolls for credit but is not admitted to formal program of study leading to a degree or certificate.
- Unclassified students are non-degree seeking individuals who are ineligible for federal financial aid.
- In order to become a classified student and eligible to earn a degree or certificate, a student must submit official transcripts and/or other admissions documents for evaluation as described in WOP 7.101.
- Attendance Status
- Full-time Student – is registered for twelve or more semester credit hours during the fall or spring terms, or at least six semester credit hours in the summer.
Students receiving financial aid, Veterans Affairs benefits, scholarships & grants, or work on-campus should consult with the respective offices to ensure meeting requirements and eligibility for the assistance including the definition of full-time status. - Part-time Student – is registered for fewer than twelve semester credit hours during the fall or spring terms, or less than six semester credit hours in the summer.
Students receiving financial aid, Veterans Affairs benefits, scholarships & grants, or work on-campus should consult with the respective offices to ensure meeting requirements and eligibility for the assistance including the definition of part-time status.
- Full-time Student – is registered for twelve or more semester credit hours during the fall or spring terms, or at least six semester credit hours in the summer.
- Educational Level (or Class Level)
- Freshman – earned zero to 29.99 credits
- Sophomore – earned 30 to 59.99 credits
- Junior – earned 60 to 89.99 credits
- Senior – earned 90 or more credits
