In adjusting to these changing times, the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu’s Office of Admissions will hold its first Zoom Transfer Workshop on April 7 for a class at Honolulu Community College.
The virtual workshop is for students in one of Honolulu Community College’s Computer, Security, and Networking Technology (CSNT) classes. It will include a PowerPoint presentation about admissions, advising, and financial aid services available at UH West Oʻahu.
Presenters will be Admissions Officer Christopher Waiamau, Financial Aid Specialist Sarah Chase, and Articulations Specialist Summer DeBruyne. They will take questions live and via chat from students in the class.
“With the COVID-19 situation, we have had to re-think how we deliver our usual in-person services to our students and retain the ‘personal touch’ that we think is so important,” said Michelle Adorno Cohen, Director of Admissions at UH West Oʻahu. “Conducting a Zoom Transfer Workshop is an example of our commitment to providing support in our new virtual landscape to our prospective students and our UHCC partners.”
Waiamau will be co-hosting the workshop with Melodee Kawano, a Honolulu Community College Academic Counselor who oversees its CSNT and Early Childhood Education (ECED) programs.
“The participants will have the opportunity to interact with us via chat and live,” Waiamau said. “Since the CSNT program at Honolulu Community College has an articulation with our Information Security and Assurance (ISA) program, the inquiries from participants will primarily revolve around transferring into our ISA program.”
Kawano will help facilitate the mechanics of the Zoom video conference itself and also help take live questions.
“If this format works well, I hope to set up another virtual workshop before the end of the semester for one of the ECED classes at Honolulu Community College as well, which articulates into our bachelor’s degree in ECED,” Waiamau said.
