Lamakū preparation and workshops

A message from Dr. Michael Furuto, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UH West Oʻahu, in an email dated March 18:

Aloha UH West Oʻahu ʻOhana!

This email serves as a friendly reminder of the migration of online course materials from Laulima to Lamakū, which may begin this semester and to full teaching in Lamakū this upcoming fall semester. We understand that transitions of this nature require significant effort, and we appreciate your commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful implementation of our new Lamakū Learning Management System (LMS). This is a critical step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the learning experience for our students and provide faculty and staff with a more up-to-date and user-friendly platform.

Acknowledging this migration will require time and effort, we are fully committed to providing you with the necessary support and workshop training to facilitate this transition. The Office of Distance Education and Learning (ODEL) led by Director Dr. David San Jose will be offering workshops both via Zoom and in person. ODEL will provide step-by-step support in the following areas:

  • Lamakū sandbox set up in preparation for the Fall 2025 semester: You may set up your Lamakū sandbox now and import this over to your live site once it is available. ODEL can assist and support.
  • Lamakū Setup and Functionality: We will guide you through the initial setup of your Lamakū courses and familiarize you with the platform’s features, modules, and tools.
  • Assessment Tools and Grading: We will provide training and resources on how to effectively utilize Lamakū’s assessment tools and grading functionalities.
  • Course Development and Delivery: We will offer guidance on best practices for developing and delivering engaging and effective online courses.

ODEL will be holding in-person Lamakū workshops beginning Friday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon at A-227. Please bring your laptop to the workshop. You may register here: ODEL Lamakū Friday Workshops (see table below for details).

Likewise, ODEL along with the UH System ID PLC have created online resources and offer individual consultations to ensure you have the support you need. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to familiarize yourself with Lamakū and effectively build your courses.
