The Fall 2023 Student Research and Creative Works Symposium — University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s popular semesterly, campus-wide event — continues with its two-day, hybrid format from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in C-208, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, via Zoom.

The primary aim of the symposium, which has benefitted hundreds of UH West O‘ahu students throughout the years (this is the 14th symposium), is to provide an opportunity for dynamic student research learning experiences to be showcased on a variety of topics, said symposium director Dr. Camonia Graham-Tutt, who is also interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and associate professor of Community Health at UH West O‘ahu.

“In addition to our incredibly insightful oral and poster sessions mentored by our esteemed faculty from Public Administration, Social Sciences, Math, Natural and Health Sciences, Education, and Business, we will also be bringing back our popular roundtable session, as we did before COVID-19, featuring our Elementary and Secondary Education students,” Graham-Tutt noted.

Organizers are also welcoming more creative works to the symposium this semester, including new demonstrations on 3D world-building and puzzle-solving algorithms using Swift programming language from students in Creative Media.

“It is exciting to see how limitless the symposium has been as students present their research and creative works,” Graham-Tutt said.

Ultimately, the goal of the symposium is to increase the number of undergraduate UH West O‘ahu students with engaged scholarship and research experience. This student-focused event will also demonstrate diversity in their respective fields of study.
