Be transported to Italy, Mexico, and Peru at a concert presented by Chamber Music Hawai‘i and featuring the Galliard String Quartet, 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, at the University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s James & Abigail Campbell Library.

The Galliard String Quartet’s program, “Dances from the South,” is Chamber Music Hawai‘i’s first event of its 2022-2023 season and features the quartet performing, “Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout,” by Gabriela Lena Frank.

“ ‘Dances From the South’ features a brilliant mixture of colorful songs that will take you on an aural journey to experience the cultural beauty of gems in Italy, Mexico, Peru, and back,” according to Chamber Music Hawai‘i’s website. “Featuring romantic Italian-influenced works by Hugo Wolf and Giacomo Puccini coupled with the passionate and lively dances by modern composers José Elizondo and Gabriela Lena Frank, you will find yourself tapping your feet and being transported.”

The following are more Chamber Music Hawai‘i concerts coming up at the James & Abigail Campbell Library:

  • Feb. 27, 2023: Leonard Bernstein Suite for Brass. With Honolulu Brass Quintet, dedicated to the pet dogs in Bernstein’s life and written for members of the New York Philharmonic.
  • April 6, 2023: Put Some Spring in Your Step. With Spring Wind Quintet, featuring works by Anton Reicha, Michael-Thomas Foumai, and Paquito d’Rivera.

Event organizers extend their gratitude to the Chancellor’s Office and the James & Abigail Campbell Library staff for venue support.
