Learn about the applications of problem-solving algorithms from Dr. Ruhul Amin, and how he is able to use computers and images taken from satellite sensors and aboard the International Space Station, at the Oct. 18 Math + Science + X seminars from 10 to 11 a.m. in A219. Dr. Amin, the founder of the company BioOptoSense, will present his work with ocean color remote sensing. The applications of ocean color remote sensing are extensive, varied, and fundamental to understanding and monitoring the global ecosystem.

Math + Science + X seminars help to promote fascinating and current STEM topics. Seminars are geared to introduce UH West Oʻahu students to a variety of research and career opportunities.

Dr. Amin’s activities include the use of remotely sensed hyperspectral optical measurements taken on board the International Space Station to develop early harmful algal bloom detection, quantification, and classification algorithms. He possesses expertise in oceanographic and atmospheric remote sensing, satellite data analysis, and radiative transfer modeling.
