The regular meeting of the UHWO Faculty Senate was held via Zoom Platform. FS Chair Keaunui absent. Vice-Chair Lisa Spencer presiding with Katie Landgraf, Recorder pro-tem (no objections). Vice-Chair Spencer called the meeting to order at 11:47 a.m.

Minutes of the February 4, 2022, Faculty Senate Meeting

A. Circulated to Faculty Senate members.

B. No corrections.  Approved as circulated.

III. Administrative Reports

  1. Office of the Chancellor (Chancellor Maenette Benham)
    1. President Lasner – University stance on Ukraine.
    2. Thanked Alan Rosenfeld, his team, and the staff that were involved in the WSCUC visit. WSCUC will review the final report in their June meeting and then contact the University regarding accreditation status (early July).
    3. System-wide committees reviewed federal, state, and county COVID shifts. UH is still requiring masks in-doors on campuses through commencement. Lumisight, testing, etc. still in place. Currently looking to restore events as allowed. Pre-pandemic conditions on campus Fall 2022.
    4. March event: UH Board of Regents meeting – March 17th – closed meeting. Available through Zoom. This will be the first campus-based meeting at UHWO.
    5. Review the weekly Chancellor’s bulletin to stay updated on what is happening on campus.
  2. Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs (Interim Vice-Chancellor Jan Javinar)
    1. Early alert reporting – Due March 9th.
      1. Last day to withdraw from class (no refund, W grade) is March 28th.
      2. Online Early Alert live trainings – March 7 (2pm) and 9th (4:30pm) – Noeau Virtual Front Desk
    2. Received a large amount of applications for students graduating this Spring 2022 (March 1) – 384.
      1. Continue the two ceremonies (same day) for graduation.
      2. Candidates will be limited to 4 guests.
      3. Continue requiring negative COVID tests/vaccination and masks.
      4. Asking for help with ceremonies from faculty.
    3. Fall 2022: slim increase in the # of students applications as compared to Fall 2021. 
      1. Freshman applications increased – 129 more this fall than last year. Increased acceptance of these applications. Will do some intentional reach-outs to these students.
  3. Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Vice-Chancellor Jeff Moniz)
    1. Senate bill – 3269: senate committee met today 3/4/22, voted yes to amendments. Amendment may have included some general funds. Further review is needed.
    2. WSCUC:  Thanked everyone who provided input into the WSCUC team. Looking forward to celebrating and responding with the rest of campus.
