Laboratory
The UH West Oʻahu Laboratory Safety program oversees safety and compliance for all research and teaching laboratory spaces on the UH West Oʻahu campus in an effort to reduce the risk or injury and exposures to all potential hazards found in laboratories. This safety program includes training, hazard communication, the use of personal protection equipment, chemical management, standard operating procedures, waste management, and other proper safe laboratory practices. UH West Oʻahu laboratory safety mission is to ensure that all students, faculty, staff and visitors are protected from laboratory hazards.
Biological
Biological Safety Program
Biological work on the UH West O‘ahu campus fall under the umbrella of the UH System Biosafety Office. All biological work must be approved by the UH Biosafety Office and/or other local, state, and federal agencies prior to any start of work with biologicals. The UH West O‘ahu Biological Safety Program was created to ensure the safe use and disposal of biological agents used in the laboratories.

Hazard Communication Program
The University of Hawaii West O‘ahu is committed to providing a safe and healthful environment for everyone on the UH West O‘ahu campus. Through this commitment, the UH West O‘ahu Hazard Communication Program (HazCom) has been developed for the awareness and the protection of faculty, staff, students and visitors from potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Chemical Hygiene Plan
The UH West O‘ahu Chemical Hygiene Plan serves as the basis to the minimum requirements for safety in the UH West O‘ahu laboratories. It is the responsibility of the principal investigators of the laboratory to adjust the hygiene plan to appropriately protect all users and visitors to the laboratory. A current written plan must be available in the laboratory safety manual at all times.

Hazardous Material and Waste
The UH West O‘ahu Hazardous Material Management Program (HMMP) provides information on requirements for the management of hazardous chemical materials, including the disposal of hazardous chemical waste. These requirements are to help the University to remain in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
