Summer 2019 Financial Aid

Currently admitted, degree-seeking students will be reviewed by the Financial Aid office for Summer awarding. Funding is limited to the Federal PELL Grants and some institutional aid, depending on the availability of funds. Students must not have met or exceeded their 600% Lifetime Eligibility for the PELL Grant to be eligible for a Summer 2019 Pell Grant award. Students may check their current Lifetime PELL Eligibility Used by logging on to NSLDS.ed.gov.

Summer Federal Pell Grant

Due to limitations on the eligibility of Federal Pell Programs, some enrolled students may not be eligible for a Summer Pell Grant.

Generally, students who have received financial aid during the fall 2018 and/or spring 2019 and continue to meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress, may be considered for a summer 2019 Pell Grant and additional institutional aid.

The Pell Grant is available to qualified students:

  1. Who enroll at least half-time (6 or more credits) and who may have exceeded their full-year scheduled award.
Example 1: If you received a Pell Grant for full-time enrollment in both the fall and spring, you are only eligible for a Summer Pell Grant if you enroll at least half-time (6 or more credits).
  2. Who enroll less than half-time (1-5 credits) or more and did not utilize their full-year scheduled Pell Grant eligibility during the fall and spring semesters (full time for both terms).
Example 2: If you received a Pell Grant at less than full-time enrollment during the fall and/or the spring, you may have Pell Grant eligibility remaining if you enroll at less half-time.

Note: Receiving a Federal Pell Grant during any semester will count toward your 600% Pell Grant Lifetime Limit.

Additional Aid for Summer 2019

Depending on the availability of institutional scholarships and grant funds, we may be able to offer some additional summer aid, but this is not guaranteed. Students can email requests for Summer financial aid to the UH West Oʻahu Financial Aid office at uhwofa@hawaii.edu.

Concurrent Enrollment for Summer: Student who are eligible to receive the Federal PELL Grant funds may be eligible for additional PELL Grant funds for courses taken during summer sessions at UH community colleges during summer sessions. To qualify, students must be enrolled in at least six UH West Oʻahu total credits during Summer 2019 (May 20 through August 9, 2019). The Summer Concurrent Enrollment Form must be signed by an advisor prior to being submitted to the Financial Aid office. The Advising office can be reached directly at (808) 689-2689, and any questions regarding submission of the form can be directed to the Financial Aid office.

Awarding Process for Summer 2019 Aid

Students do not have to submit any additional forms (unless they are concurrently enrolled at another UH community college during 2019 Summer sessions) to request Summer 2019 aid. The Financial Aid office will review the enrollment status for students during all Summer 2019 sessions, and students may receive an award based on their eligibility.
