Hazing Education and Resources
Education:
On September 4, 2025, the University of Hawaii System launched “Hazing Prevention: What Every College Student Needs to Know.” This training module is intended to equip all students and student organizations within the UH West Oahu campus community with the knowledge and resources necessary to understand, recognize, actively prevent, and report hazing.
Bystander Intervention:
Bystander intervention, a strategy for preventing violence. The UH System emphasizes that everyone has a role in creating a safe campus environment and encourages individuals to intervene when they witness potentially harmful or unjust situations. This includes preventing situations that could lead to harm, and supporting individuals who feel pressured or uncomfortable. The UH System approach to bystander intervention emphasizes the responsibility of all UH community members to create a safe and inclusive environment by taking action when witnessing harmful behaviors. The 3-D approach and the focus on personal safety are key components of this approach.

- The UH System uses a 3-D Approach to intervention::
- Direct: Directly address the situation or harm.
- Distract: Distract the person causing harm from the situation.
- Delegate: Delegate intervention to someone else, such as campus security or other trained personnel.
Available Resources:
UH West Oʻahu offers free and confidential mental health services for all enrolled students. Services are provided by a qualified mental health professional and include individual and group therapy, couples counseling, and psychological assessment.

National Anti-Hazing Hotline #1-888-NOT-HAZE (1-888-668-4293)
The National Anti-Hazing Hotline allows for anonymous, confidential reporting of hazing incidents. Sponsored by 47 national/international Greek organizations, it accepts calls regarding fraternities, sororities, athletics, and student organizations. Reports are sent to national headquarters.
Hazing Prevention Network, is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people to prevent hazing. Their goal is to educate people about the dangers of hazing, advocate for change, and engage the community in strategies to prevent hazing. Hazing Prevention Network, teaches colleges, universities, schools, clubs, teams, and other groups to move beyond punishment to create a culture that stops hazing before it starts.
StopHazing promotes safe and inclusive school, campus, and organizational environments through research, resource sharing, and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention and the promotion of positive and inclusive group climates.
