Volunteers needed for Spring 2022 Commencement

The Associated Students of the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu (ASUHWO) and UH West Oʻahu Commencement Committee are seeking STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF to volunteer to assist with the Spring 2022 Commencement to honor our UH West Oʻahu graduates.

Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, greeting, ushering/escorting guests, and breaking down. Assistance is needed for Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. Seeking at least 50 volunteers on Friday, and 75 volunteers at each ceremony on Saturday. You may volunteer for more than one shift.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

While proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results are not required, everyone who comes to the UH West O’ahu campus – students, employees and visitors – are asked to respect the Pueo Safety Promise.

– Stay home if your temperature is higher than 100.4 or if you have been in close contact with a suspected or confirmed case.

– Wear a face covering (cover mouth and nose).

– Maintain safe physical distance and practice good hand washing hygiene when on campus.

– Remain informed about health and safety guidelines and take steps to protect our campus community.

AREAS FOR VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE

Friday, May 6 – Pre-Event Set Up (at least 50 volunteers)

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or whenever the areas are set up)

Areas of assistance includes (but not limited to):

  • setting up and the movement of tents, tables, stanchions, signage/banners, and crowd control barriers

  • wiping of chairs

  • any other items needed or tasks completed

Attire: comfortable clothing for lots of movement, shoes, hat, bottled water

Saturday, May 7 – (Two Ceremony Shifts)

Morning Ceremony Shift – 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. (at least 75 volunteers)

Areas of assistance includes (but not limited to):

  • wiping of chairs

  • parking lot and verification volunteers 

  • greeters and directional guides at welcome station

  • graduate check-in and line-up

  • direct and guide guests to seating

  • assist with clean up

  • any other items needed or tasks completed

Attire: UH West Oʻahu apparel or a red T-shirt, comfortable pants or shorts, shoes/covered toes, hat, bottled water

Afternoon Ceremony Shift – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (at least 75 volunteers)

Areas of assistance includes (but not limited to):

  • wiping of chairs

  • parking lot and verification volunteers 

  • greeters and directional guides at welcome station

  • graduate check-in and line-up

  • direct and guide guests to seating

  • assist with break down of event, clean up

  • any other items needed or tasks completed

Attire: UH West Oʻahu apparel or a red t-shirt, comfortable pants or shorts, shoes/covered toes, hat, bottled water

Each areas of assistance (for morning and afternoon ceremonies) will have an area lead volunteer who will provide detailed instructions and information at the start of your volunteer shift or they will e-mail you ahead of time.
