‘Uta-Sanshin & Udui’ event, Jan. 25

We welcome you to join us for Uta-Sanshin & Udui: Performing Arts of Okinawa and “The Typhoon of Steel,” 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in the James & Abigail Campbell Library’s newly reopened second floor exhibition/event space.

The event features a conversation with and performance from Norman Kaneshiro and Yukie Shiroma, both of whom teach performing arts at UH Mānoa. The musical numbers that will be featured are “Yaka Bushi,” which emerged out of the POW camps after the Battle of Okinawa, and “Hama chiuduri.”

This is the culminating event for the series of programming related to Himeyuri and Hawaii, a traveling exhibition. That exhibition closes on Jan. 31. Info: uhwolib@hawaii.edu
