Students and faculty welcome to participate in research symposium, April 16-17

The Spring 2024 Student Research and Creative Works Symposium, which provides an opportunity for dynamic student research learning experiences to be showcased on a variety of topics, returns to a two-day hybrid event this semester. The research symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in C-208, and starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, via Zoom.

The goal of this campus-wide event — the 15th symposium since its inaugural event in 2016 — is to increase the number of undergraduate UH West Oʻahu students with engaged scholarship and research experience, said Dr. Camonia Graham-Tutt, symposium director and Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UH West Oʻahu.

The following is information for students and faculty who are interested in participating in the symposium:

  • Students who are interested in sharing their research at the symposium, want more information, or have questions about the event can email camonia@hawaii.edu.
  • Faculty can join in with their classes, with a student researcher, or with an entire research group. Faculty who are interested in participating can email camonia@hawaii.edu.

Additionally, Graham-Tutt encourages interested faculty, instructors, and lecturers to attend the following preparation sessions:

  • Meeting No. 1: Student Research and Creative Works Symposium Planning Session. This meeting is for new and continuing symposium faculty, instructors, and lecturers who would like to plan their symposium session. Details: 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21.   • Meeting No. 2: Student Research and Creative Works Symposium Check-in Session. This meeting is for new and continuing symposium faculty, instructors, and lecturers who would like to check in on the plans for their symposium session.   • Meeting No. 3: Student Research and Creative Works Symposium Practice Session. This meeting is for new and continuing symposium faculty, instructors, and lecturers who would like to practice for their symposium session with their students.
