The following is a message from Savi:

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) is for individuals with federal loans who work for qualifying public service organizations or government employers. This program offers borrowers a way to reduce monthly loan bills, with total loan forgiveness after making 120 months of eligible payments.

Under the rules of the PSLF, University of Hawai’i employees may be eligible for this program.

Is there a cost?

There are two service tiers available to borrowers. 1. A free calculator to assess their situation and get guidance on the best options available. 2. For $60 per calendar year, you can enroll in Savi’s Essential service. Savi will administer the program’s ongoing paperwork requirements including annual reenrollment, employer certifications, and filing for PSLF credits with the DOE.

This service helps borrowers avoid common and not-so-common errors and to stay in compliance with exacting rules.

Specifically, Savi will help:

  • Determine if your loan(s) qualify for forgiveness
  • Identify the best repayment method for your loan and your estimated monthly payment
  • Estimate how much money will be forgiven and when
  • Consolidate your loan(s), if needed, to conform with the PSLF Limited Waiver requirements
  • Generate any required forms, help you complete them, check them prior to submission and then submit them on your behalf
  • Monitor your submitted applications and forms with loan servicers and your employer
  • Track your PSLF credits once you start making loan payments under the program
  • Update you on any policy changes
