Receive an award and develop your research skills!
Interested in developing research skills in preparation for graduate school or careers in STEM? Want to travel to present your research at a conference? Earn a stipend while expanding your skills through guidance from faculty mentors, in collaboration with workshops designed to teach students how to conduct research and present findings.
“Participating in Undergraduate research opportunities is an important step in a student’s academic career,” said Assistant Professor of Biology Megan Ross. “Working with a mentor to design and conduct your own research is a great way to learn more about your career path, apply the skills learned in course work, and to develop networks of peers and mentors that will last well into your professional career.”
Open to students from all academic disciplines, this undergraduate research opportunity can serve as a senior project, and this valuable experience is considered desirable for potential graduate students.
Students will receive a $2,000 stipend, funding for their faculty mentor, materials, and potential for additional funding for travel to conferences to present their work. Pūko‘a Kani ‘Āina is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP) grant designed to increase Native Hawaiian student success in STEM at UH West O‘ahu.
