Participate in General Education town halls

Aloha kākou,

The first four open town halls to discuss the General Education redesign drew faculty, staff, administrators, and students from across the UH system, and saw robust discussions of various components of the draft proposal.

We would like to announce four more open town halls for the UH community. These will be more focused on specific parts of the draft proposal in order to help participants dive a bit deeper into each level. The next set of town hall meetings hosted on zoom will include:

  • Thursday, Feb. 17, 3-4 p.m.: focused on the Foundations level

  • Tuesday, March 8, 3-4 p.m.: focused on the Reinforcement level

  • Monday, April 4, 3-4 p.m.: focused on the proposed Capstone

  • Wednesday, April 13, 3-5 p.m.: to collect Recommendations for revision

You can register using your hawaii.edu email address for any or all of these town halls.

The draft proposal for a reimagined general education program for our 10-campus University of Hawaiʻi system was released in October 2021. One common set of questions discussed in these and other meetings are about what the problems are with our current general education program. This brief video was produced to give you a quick summary of some of the major issues that make our general education curricula problematic and outdated.

In addition to formal consultation through the 10 campus-level faculty senates, there has been a robust program of direct engagement with the UH community. Your feedback, questions, and recommendations can be submitted through this anonymous Google form, requests for meetings with Curriculum Design Team members by various committees, departments, divisions, and schools/colleges through this Google form, and through emails to gedesign@hawaii.edu. We are grateful for all of the feedback and recommendations that have been submitted to date, and encourage everyone to continue to engage in this process.
