Mental Health Moment: Mental Health and Academic Success
A message from UH West Oʻahu Mental Health Services to students in an email dated Sept. 20:
The Healthy Minds Network Survey was administered to UH West Oʻahu students in 2022. From this sample, 32% of the participants reported that mental health and emotional problems impaired their functioning for six or more days in the semester. However, 44% of the respondents have never reached out to a professional for mental health support.
Let’s put these statistics into perspective. A higher education is a wonderful investment, but requires a considerable financial sacrifice and takes years to complete. While college is not free, mental health services for our students are. Please take advantage of the care that we offer and get the best return on your investment.
Mental health services are available for all UH West Oʻahu students and we encourage anyone whose academic performance is not optimal because of psychological or emotional problems to get help. Treatment begins with an intake that assists us in formulating a wellness plan that is tailored to your specific needs. Don’t wait, email uhwotalk@hawaii.edu today.
Warmest regards,
