January is National Stalking Awareness Month
The University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu Compliance Hui is sponsoring National Stalking Awareness Month throughout January on campus and aims to share information on stalking to help unmask the truth about it, help others to recognize stalking characteristics, and encourage victims to report behaviors of stalking.
What is stalking? It is engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to:
- Fear for the person’s safety or the safety of others, or
- Suffer substantial emotional distress.
Stalking is a violation of both Title IX and student conduct codes, and is a crime in Hawaiʻi.
As a reminder, the UH West Oʻahu Compliance Hui will place yellow rings — yellow is the official color of stalking awareness — throughout the campus. The Compliance Hui will also be posting weekly stalking awareness information here in the Makahaiwaʻa bulletin and on its social media accounts. Follow @UHWOCompliance on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook. Also, for every like or share that students do for the weekly social media posts, they will be entered into a weekly prize giveaway; limit one prize per winning student.
