‘Hawaiian and Palestinian Sisterhood’ online showcase and discussion, Aug. 5
UH West Oʻahu student group Ka Mana o Nā Pueo (KMOP) presents “The Hawaiian and Palestinian Sisterhood,” an online showcase and discussion 5 p.m. Aug. 5 via Zoom.
Student activists from UH West Oʻahu will showcase their exhibit — currently on display at the James & Abigail Campbell Library — featuring banners, photos, and quotes supporting Palestine.
Hosted by KMOP, the exhibit provides a platform for the UH West Oʻahu community and other concerned individuals to express urgently needed solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The KMOP exhibit features a banner made by students and faculty that was marched through the streets of Waikīkī in the largest march for Palestine to date. Additionally, the installation includes quotes by students and faculty sharing their motivations for advocacy and photography depicting the unique sisterhood between Palestine and Hawaiʻi.
Led by student activists, scholars, and community organizers, the event will delve into various aspects of Palestinian resistance, the impacts of ongoing occupation and apartheid, and the avenues for fostering global solidarity.
Malina Marquez, UH West Oʻahu alumna and founding member of Ka Mana o Nā Pueo, explains the importance of these efforts to UH West Oʻahu: “Through the lens of student activism, our exhibit showcases the impassioned voices and unwavering commitment towards justice for Palestine and their profound sisterhood with Hawaiʻi.”
