Enhancing Hawaiian Cultural Competency series

The UH West Oʻahu Office of Distance Education and Learning (ODEL) and the Office of Professional Development and Academic Support (OPDAS) present the Enhancing Hawaiian Cultural Competency series.

The series, which features presenter Kade Hemakanakauanoeʻokoʻolaulani Yam-Lum, will be held 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays on Feb. 14, 21, and 28 via Zoom. Click here to learn more about each session and to register. 

Yam-Lum is a 2019 UH West Oʻahu graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian Pacific Studies. He is a Hawaiian Language and Hawaiian Arts and Crafts teacher at Kapolei Charter School.

The objectvies of the series, which is funded by the Kelekaʻa Hoʻonaʻauao Grant, are the following:

  1. To enhance awareness and understanding of Hawaiian culture, traditions, and values.
  2. To provide educators with the knowledge needed to incorporate Hawaiian language and cultural elements into their curriculum.
  3. To cultivate a commitment among UH West Oʻahu faculty to support and promote Hawaiian cultural inclusion.
